Why Spiritual Teachers Rarely Understand Twin Flames

If you have spent much time exploring the Twin Flame phenomenon, you have probably noticed something that seems surprisingly common. Throughout my years of studying thousands of Twin Flame cases through New World Allstar, I have repeatedly encountered people who were sincerely seeking spiritual guidance, yet many of the individuals presenting themselves as spiritual teachers appeared just as confused about the Twin Flame phenomenon as the people asking the questions. At first glance, this seems difficult to explain. If Twin Flames are a spiritual phenomenon, shouldn't spiritual teachers be among the people most qualified to understand them?

The answer depends entirely on what we mean by the phrase spiritual teacher.

Today, that label has become remarkably broad. Someone who teaches manifestation, energy work, chakras, emotional healing, intuition, or similar subjects is often described as a spiritual teacher. These subjects are certainly adjacent to spirituality, and many of them may have genuine value within their proper context. Psychological healing can help people recover from trauma. Meditation can calm the mind. Energy practices may contribute to a person's sense of well-being. None of these things should be dismissed simply because they are not the primary focus of this article. The problem arises only when these adjacent subjects become confused with spirituality itself.

For thousands of years, the Great Spiritual Masters were concerned with something much more fundamental than helping people become happier, healthier, or more emotionally balanced versions of themselves. Whether we look to the Buddha, Ramana Maharshi, Paramahansa Yogananda, Jiddu Krishnamurti, or many other non-dual traditions, we find the same essential inquiry appearing again and again. Their central question was not, How do I improve the person I think I am? It was, Who am I before the mind tells me who I am? Spiritual awakening, in its original sense, was never primarily about improving the psychological self. It was about recognizing that your true nature is not the psychological self at all.

Over time, however, much of modern spirituality has gradually shifted its center of gravity. Conversations that were once focused on consciousness, awareness, and awakening have increasingly become conversations about healing, self-improvement, trauma recovery, attachment styles, shadow work, and emotional regulation. These pursuits can be valuable, but they belong to a different category. Healing concerns the condition of the psychological self. Awakening concerns the recognition that who you truly are is deeper than the psychological self altogether. The distinction is subtle, yet it is one of the most important distinctions in all of spirituality. When those two processes become confused, the result is that spirituality slowly transforms into a sophisticated form of self-improvement while retaining spiritual language.

One phrase I often use when teaching through New World Allstar is the Healing Hype. By this I simply mean the modern tendency to treat healing as the answer to nearly every spiritual question. If someone feels anxious, they need more healing. If a relationship falls apart, they need more healing. If they experience emotional pain after meeting someone they believe to be their Twin Flame, the explanation is usually assumed to be another wound that must be healed. Healing becomes the universal answer because the underlying assumption is that spirituality is fundamentally about improving the psychological person.

The Twin Flame phenomenon challenges that assumption in a profound way.

After more than eight years of studying thousands of cases through New World Allstar, I have repeatedly observed that a genuine Twin Flame encounter consistently initiates spontaneous spiritual awakening. Individuals who previously had little interest in consciousness often become deeply immersed in meditation, non-duality, and the teachings of the Great Spiritual Masters. Many report kundalini activation, becoming psychic, profound mystical experiences, ego death, extraordinary synchronicities, out-of-body experiences, and a complete restructuring of how they understand themselves and Reality. These observations have become one of the central diagnostic standards within my work because they consistently distinguish the genuine Twin Flame phenomenon from ordinary heartbreak, anxious attachment, limerence, or relationship obsession.

Notice what this means. The Twin Flame phenomenon is not primarily inviting someone to become emotionally healthier. It is confronting them with the very question that has stood at the center of genuine spirituality for thousands of years: Who are you? If that distinction is overlooked, then the entire experience begins to be interpreted through the wrong framework. A profound awakening process becomes reclassified as unresolved trauma. A radical transformation of consciousness becomes reduced to emotional dysregulation. The search for one's true nature becomes another self-improvement project.

This is one of the reasons Kurt Johnson has often argued that the Twin Flame community has inherited far more from modern spiritual culture than from the Great Spiritual Masters themselves. Many contemporary Twin Flame coaches genuinely care about helping people, but much of the advice offered today reflects the assumptions of the Healing Hype rather than the teachings of awakening. The conversation revolves around healing enough to attract Union, raising one's vibration, clearing energetic blocks, or becoming worthy of unconditional love. Whether intentionally or not, the relationship remains at the center of the teaching, while awakening gradually becomes secondary.

Ironically, many contemporary spiritual teachers make the opposite mistake. They may possess a deep appreciation for meditation, mindfulness, or certain mystical traditions, yet they have never devoted years to studying the Twin Flame phenomenon itself. As a result, they often interpret the experience as little more than another form of attachment, projection, or emotional dependence because they have not observed the remarkably consistent awakening patterns that emerge across thousands of genuine Twin Flame cases. Through New World Allstar, I have repeatedly found that neither perspective is sufficient on its own. Relationship coaching without awakening misses the deepest transformation taking place, while spirituality without careful observation of the Twin Flame phenomenon misses the unique mechanics through which that transformation repeatedly unfolds.

One of the greatest misconceptions about my work is that I am attempting to create a new form of spirituality. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Great Spiritual Masters already described awakening with extraordinary depth and clarity. They explained the nature of consciousness, the illusion of the separate self, and the realization of our true identity long before the modern Twin Flame community existed. My work has simply been to recognize that the same awakening process described by those Masters consistently appears within the Twin Flame phenomenon, and to document the recurring patterns that emerge when thousands of people undergo that extraordinary experience. In that sense, Kurt Johnson's contribution has never been to replace ancient spirituality, but to connect it with a phenomenon that has remained largely unexplained.

Ultimately, this is why so many modern spiritual teachers struggle to understand Twin Flames. The issue is not a lack of sincerity or intelligence. It is that many have inherited a definition of spirituality centered on healing rather than awakening. Once that shift occurred, confusion about the Twin Flame phenomenon became almost inevitable because the phenomenon consistently directs people toward the very process that the Great Spiritual Masters devoted their lives to describing. Through New World Allstar, my goal has never been to diminish the importance of healing, but to restore the distinction between healing and awakening, and to show how the Twin Flame phenomenon repeatedly brings that timeless distinction into sharp focus. When those categories are restored, both spirituality and the Twin Flame phenomenon begin to make sense in a way that neither psychology nor modern spiritualism can fully explain on their own.
